Propane makes a significant contribution to meeting our nation's big appetite for energy and helps free the county of political problems that go along with being an energy importer. Ninety-seven percent of our propane supply is produced in North America, with 90% of that produced in the United States.

Domestic production is the key to our country's well-being in another important way. The propane industry employs 96,000 Americans who produce, deliver, and market this domestic product. An extensive nationwide pipe- line system carries propane to various distribution terminals for delivery to dealers and finally, to the end-user by tank truck. What does not get shipped through the pipeline system is transported by truck, rail car, or barge. There is enough propane gas in reserves right now to meet demand well into the 21st century. These are vast stores of our own energy source. Energy that provides jobs, eases our reliance on foreign oil, and plays a part in enhancing national security.
